Karen Dietrich of Phoenix Fiber Mill in Olney Springs, Colorado, discusses the family-owned manufacturer. The company makes its own line of socks with wool from the Dietrichs' alpacas, as well as offering contract manufacturing to other brands.

Dietrich says the mission is making "the perfect sock" for customers. "They say it takes about 10 years to learn to run the sock machine," she says. "They aren't kidding!"
