Denver, October 18, 2016 -- The 2016 Wright was awarded Tuesday evening to South Main, of
Buena Vista, Colorado. South Main is a free white-water park with public-access riverside trails
surrounded by an enticing neighborhood of shops, homes, and community resources, all
designed to draw people to enjoy the beauty of this Colorado mountain town.

“It’s an honor to win this award,” said Jed Selby, founder of South Main, “but the real value of
being here extends well beyond tonight. The Wright creates so many relationships that genuinely
matter and will continue to grow well beyond tonight’s event.”

Bonsai Designs of Grand Junction, Colorado, which offers team-building zip line courses across
the country that provide an exciting outdoor experience, appealing to people of all adventure
levels, was a runner up. Additional runner up was Ouray Ice Park, the largest ice park in the
world, that is man-made, open and free to the public, and successfully boosts the town’s winter
tourism economy by pulling in climbers to Ouray, Colorado from all over the world.

Presented annually by Something Independent, The Wright is awarded to a company leading at
the intersection of lifestyle and commerce. Colorado Governor John W. Hickenlooper was on
hand when the winner was announced and spoke about the importance of this audience to the
state’s future.

“These twelve companies reflect a mindset that embodies the Colorado spirit. They represent a
way of thinking that couples leadership with cooperation,” said Gov. Hickenlooper, who presented
the award to South Main. “We are grateful for their presence in our state, their contributions to the
region’s economy, and their commitment to their craft. Congratulations to South Main and to all
contenders who are making a positive impact on the rise of the West.”

Contenders were selected from a pool of 125 nominees from the region. Each of the twelve
contenders submitted a 90-second video that conveyed their vision, approach to their craft, and
their uniquely Western inspiration. A jury of peers judged the videos and selected three
contenders to advance as finalists. During Tuesday’s Award Night, finalists participated in live
Q&A with the judging panel in front of a crowd of 300 before the winner was chosen and The
2016 Wright was awarded.

“Colorado has long been a place where entrepreneurs aspire and succeed. The companies that
were selected this year are solid examples of that drive, that vision, and that commitment,” said
Chuck Sullivan, co-founder of Something Independent, host of The Wright. “They share this
mindset that hard work and relationships of consequence are at the foundation of building the
right kind of business.”
