Manufacturing Industry To Trump

Manufacturing only accounts for 8.4% of total employment, but has certainly been in the spotlight as of late. It was a reoccurring focal point for campaign 2016 and many of Trump’s campaign promises and first-day-on-the-job executive orders are centered around manufacturing; from proposals to raise import tariffs to officiallykilling the TPP, constant criticism of NAFTA’s impact on manufacturing jobs or tweeting about how the strong dollar is “killing us”. Given the political attention that continues surround the manufacturing industry, you would think it was a bigger piece of the U.S. economic landscape. That being said, what are the actual numbers telling us about manufacturing and the role it will play in the U.S. economy over the next four years?
